Girls golf team competes at districts

The girls golf team finished third at the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 5 Tournament held at the Tokatee Golf Club in Blue River on Monday and Tuesday, May 7 and 8.

Crook County took championship honors with a two-day team total of 762. La Pine was runner-up at 786, Sisters third at 847 and Cottage Grove carded a 942 for fourth.

Sisters entered the district tourney with a best team score of 455 and bettered their score on day one by 29 strokes at 426. In the second round the Outlaws did even better, and improved by five additional strokes for a score of 421.

Codie Lagao led the Outlaws with a 100/98/198 and Holly Chapman was three strokes back at 99/102/201. Delanie Stevens carded a 113/103/216, Erin Wren 114/103/217, and Haley Zadow rounded out the scoring with 122/126/248.

Lagao finished eighth overall and Chapman finished 10th. Both were selected second-team all-district.

Coach Bill Mitchell was pleased with his team's scores.

"Our goal all season has been to break 50 for nine holes," said Mitchell. "On day two Codie went 49/49. She hit her drive right down the middle, long and straight. It was the best I've seen her hit. When you hit your drives well, it sets up the hole and makes it a lot easier."
