News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The outdoor burning season in Sisters Country closes for the summer no later than June 3 at dusk.
The closure may occur sooner in the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District, depending on the fire danger conditions that result from weather factors such as lack of precipitation, low relative humidity, high temperatures and wind.
Residents are urged to complete their outdoor burning as soon as possible. Prior to any outdoor burning, you must call the outdoor burning line to confirm that burning is open for the day. The phone number is listed on the Sisters-Camp Sherman fire district's outdoor burning regulations, which they recommend you review for compliance before you burn. A copy of the regulations may be obtained from any Sisters Country fire station, or at http://www.sistersfire.com. In addition to following the regulations, check the weather forecast in order to avoid burning during windy conditions.
Outdoor debris burns should be attended at all times and must be extinguished by dark. In order to prevent an accidental wildfire, debris burns should be completely extinguished with water to ensure that there are no hot embers remaining. Should your outdoor burn become out of control, call 9-1-1 immediately.
Any yard debris that remains on your property after burning has closed may be hauled to the Fryrear Transfer Station for disposal.
