News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Nationally acclaimed fabric artists Lisa and Lori Lubbesmeyer will take part in Kathy Deggendorfer's art show, "View from the Village," which opens June 1 at Sisters Art Works. The Lubbesmeyers were excited to be included with a talented collection of women artists from across Oregon.
"Kathy asked us last fall to be a part of this amazing group," said Lisa Lubbesmeyer. The sisters will have four pieces featured in the show.
Known for their unique approach to painting with fabric, their workflow consists of each adding their own unique vision of color, lighting and texture to the evolving piece.
"We both create them and respond to each other's work. We build on one another's additions and definitions," said Lisa. "Our final work is something we couldn't create on our own."
The subject matter for the show resonated with the twin sisters, whose pieces are alive with depth and color.
"The idea of a dwelling and what we all call home resonated with us," said Lisa. "The idea of home created a paradox of activity in my mind. I look at dwellings and wonder about the stories going on in the homes. Then I wonder about what's outside of the home and in the people's yard, then beyond their property and then extending to where it is geographically. I go from a micro view to macro and then back again."
"We have a deep appreciation for relationships and connection. Community is a huge part of what speaks to us," said Lori. "We took a bit of leeway and explored seeing yourself and your relationship to a community, and then on a larger level.
"We're excited to be asked to be in the show. Kathy pulled a group together who bring such a variety of perspectives on the theme. The caliber of work and unique perspectives provide the opportunity for guests to experience a collaboration amongst a vastly different group of artists."
View from the Village shows June 1-July 15. There will be two artist receptions, the first on June 2, and then July 10. The Lubbesmeyers will be attending both, and invite viewers to chat with them about their creative process and the back-story behind the pieces in the show.
