News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Memorial Day quilt raffle for the Sisters American Legion and VFW posts was won by Sisters-Camp Sherman firefighter Jeff May. Approximately $1,500 total was raised for veterans assistance needs and programs like the local flag replacement system and other care-based services.
May donated the quilt back to the posts to raffle off again in the future or whatever they decide to use it for.
"I am giving it back to our guys and girls that served our country," said May. "We haven't done enough for our men and women in uniform. It's the least I can do. I had totally forgotten about it since I bought the tickets and I got a call from practically everybody in town Monday that I'd won it."
The Americana quilt was made and donated by Sisters Heroes Quilters in support of the local posts and veterans community. Pat Bowe is the VFW Post Commander and appreciates everybody's support in buying the tickets and a special thanks to Jeff May for donating it back to the veterans' cause.
