To the Editor:

This year's Memorial Day service hosted by our local veterans of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars was moving, executed well, and a fine example of how our vets continue to serve.

Our collective hearts swelled with pride at each and every turn of the event. From being met at the entrance to the park by a uniformed Boy Scout handing out flags to the guest speaker, LTC Richard Miller, U.S. Army (Retired), to the retiring of the colors by the Redmond High School Marine JROTC. We were lovingly escorted along in our sorrow as we watched two faithful veterans take each arm of Josephine Davis and lead her to the front where a bouquet was bestowed upon her, having been widowed that very morning of her husband, Vietnam War veteran, Lee Davis. As a group we were reminded of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and tears flowed from uniformed men unashamed.

We listened as the gentle breezes carried the toll of the bell each time a fallen comrade's name was read, to be added to the Memorial Stone. The flag, at half staff, was then brought to full staff and we were brought along to that place of moving on with our lives.

As we left the park, young and old alike, we just knew that we had been touched by men and women who know what it means to serve and who do it silently and with joy.

Thank you, veterans, for helping us remember.

To the Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the lady that found and turned in my silver case wallet at the Sisters Rodeo on Sunday, June 10. Your honesty has saved me lots of time and heartache!

I may never get a chance to meet you but I hope you read this editorial and know how much I appreciate your honesty!
