Ten-year-old Mikayla Sadler and 16-year-old Emma Lawson each turned in championship performances at the 61st annual Salem Soapbox Derby All-American Local Championships last weekend.
Their wins qualify them to compete on July 21 in the All-American World Championships in Akron, Ohio.
Race Director Jim Youngers noted that "Emma had never even sat in a soapbox derby car before Saturday." On the other hand, "Mikayla has been racing for a number of years and she's a very good racer... she works hard; she's an expert."
The City of Sisters has presented Public Works Maintenance Supervisor Andy Duran with a certificate of appreciation and a gift for his 20 years of service to the city. The city council and staff appreciates the hard work and dedication Andy has given to the city in the past two decades. This extraordinary commitment of years of service to the City of Sisters is a major contribution to the overall success and stability of the city.
Sebastian Nelson of Sisters has qualified for state competition in 4-H archery. The young bowman will compete in Corvallis, June 25-26.
Darcy Davis and Christian Tujo won their respective divisions at the Pine Hollow "Double Aussie" Triathlon at Pine Hollow Reservoir earlier this month. The triathlon is unique in that it was a Sprint Triathlon done twice: .75k swim, 15k bike, 5k run done back-to-back. Total distances were 1.5k swim, 30k bike and 10k run. Davis and Tujo were both in the 40-44 age group division.
