Students are published authors

Thirty students at Sisters Middle School are now published authors. Each student received a copy of their book, "Animal Adventures," from Sisters Middle School, containing their stories and artwork.

The book was published by Createspace, an amazon.com company, and is available for purchase to customers in the United States, Great Britain and Europe. At press time nine copies of the book had been sold to the general public.

The official publication party for the new authors was held at Sisters Middle School on June 6. Family, friends and representatives from sponsors were on hand to congratulate the students on becoming published authors. Scotties Harry and Lola, who regularly came to school to inspire the kid's stories, were also at the party.

"This is a first, as far as we can tell," said Jean Nave, author of the "Harry and Lola" books about her rescued Scotties, and the volunteer who helped get the middle school book published. "We've looked for other books by students being published and distributed by amazon.com and there do not appear to be any.

"We've heard of a few books being self-published and printed, but we have not been able to find anything that is actually for sale to the public through a major distributor like amazon.com," said Nave.

The project was a major effort for students, their teacher, Susie Werts, her assistants and Nave, who volunteered her time.

Everyone enjoyed and learned so much from the project that they intend to create another book next year.
