News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Surrounded by her family, Betty (Elizabeth Louise) Roach passed away June 6, from cancer, in her home in Sisters. She was 78 years old. She faced this disease like she did her life, with grace, courage, care for others and a sense of humor.
Betty Kerr was born March 3, 1934, in Los Angeles, California. She retired to Sisters in 1996 with husband Ron Roach. She was a loving friend, wife, mom, aunt, and great-grandmother, always helping out and providing support - cooking, mending, playing cards, and cheering on a team. She enjoyed sewing, creating crafts, gardening, bargain shopping and spending time with family.
Betty worked at Sitchin' Post and for Quilters Affair for a number of years. She belonged to the social group S & B and also was a member of the Sisters Garden Club for a time. Most recently, Betty worked at Costco in Bend in demo services.
She spent her earlier career in retail as a data-entry specialist and also had her own soft-goods business. A third-generation Californian, she grew up in the Los Angeles area and graduated from Inglewood High School. Betty and Ron were married in 1956.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Ron, of Sisters; brother, Walt Kerr of Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Ronda Oaks of Long Beach, California, Ronnel Curry of Springfield, Oregon; and three grandsons, William Oaks, Marshall Curry and Miles Curry; and one great-grandson.
A sister, Ann Sterling, preceded her in death.
No public service is planned. Remembrances may be made to Oregon Public Broadcasting and the American Cancer Society.
