News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Ready or not - it's time to back in

Well, it's arrived. The spaces are striped and folks in Sisters are going to have to adjust to backing their vehicles into parking spaces on Main Avenue.

The construction has gone remarkably smoothly, with city public works and the Robinson & Owen construction crew doing their best to accommodate the requirements of affected businesses. They are to be commended for work well done. And it looks good, too.

Of course, all that is overshadowed by the actual fact of back-in parking, which is not especially popular, if vocal opinion is to be heeded. Like it or not, though, drivers should just buck up and back in. Having half the cars on the street parked head in across the street like they were on Monday isn't a real good idea, whether it's done as a protest or just, well, because.

Cars swinging across both lanes while others headed out made for some interesting vehicular ballet...

Don't let the parking chase you away. Continue to support your Main Avenue businesses. Backing in is easier than parallel parking - and if you really don't want to, or can't, you can readily enough park head-in on a side street. It may never be popular, but here's wager that it will soon be no big deal.
