News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Calendar models will come out from behind their quilts (fully clothed; settle down now...) for the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show's Calendar Premiere Party on Tuesday, July 10 at Sisters Art Works.
Organizers will "reveal" the new 18-month calendar, featuring the men of Sisters and quilts from Central Oregon quilters. Calendars will be available at a discount price and the guys will be on hand to personally autograph them. There will be a live auction of the quilts featured in the calendar.
The calendar features Quilt Show volunteers, Sisters firefighters, local athletes, musicians and more.
"We were looking for people who are personalities in the community," said Quilt Show Executive Director Ann Richarson. "We wanted guys that were either popular enough or good-looking enough that people might buy the calendar because they're in it."
Photographer Valori Wells sought to capture the men of Sisters in their native habitat - on horseback, with their instrument, on the trail with a bike, at work.
"They tried to capture the guys somewhat in their native habitat," Richardson explained.
The Quilt Show board of directors had been kicking the idea around for a while.
"It was an idea that the board was joking around with for a couple of years," Richardson said. "Then somebody just said: 'Why don't we really do it?'"
Do it they did, and the calendar has garnered considerable attention in the past month.
Party tickets are $10 and calendars will be discounted to $10 at the party only (regular price $12).
Sisters Art Works is located at 204 W. Adams Ave.
