Quilts take Sisters to Never Land

If quilts sprinkled with fairy dust sound like your fantastical cup of tea, the Cover to Cover Book Club Quilters are ready to take you on a journey next weekend - to Never Never Land.

The club has a tradition of creating quilts around a literary theme, from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" to "The Girl With the Pearl Earring." This year the literary work is J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan."

The "Peter & Wendy" quilts will be on display during the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show on Saturday, July 14, at the Heritage Building at the corner of Hood Avenue and Pine Street.

"We wanted to do something that would attract children to the exhibit," said Pat Busby, leader of Cover to Cover Book Club.

The legendary denizens of Never Never Land are all here: "There's a version of Tinkerbell," Busby said. "There's the pirate ship where Peter has just thrown Captain Hook over into the ocean."

Tiger Lily and her Indian village are on display and there are mermaids - and lots of fairy dust.

"We tried to hit every scene in the book," Busby said.

Her own quilt depicts Peter presenting Wendy a thimble and is titled: "I Want to Give You a Kiss."

To view the Peter & Wendy Quilts, simply head down to the corner of Hood Avenue and Pine Street, take the second star on the right and straight on till morning.
