News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Angeline's Bakery & Café will host two nights of music this weekend.
Local singer-songwriters Brad Tisdel and Willie Carmichael will team up for a concert on Saturday, August 11, at 7 p.m.
"Willie Carmichael and I have always wanted to perform a show together," Tisdel said. "When the opportunity presented itself this summer at Angeline's, we felt it would be a great venue for our songs and stories.
Each artist respectively has their own following, with Willie winning the Sisters Folk Festival song contest and having a really good draw locally. His songs are funny, poignant and a little dark with his wry sense of humor and insight. Tisdal's songs often lean toward a more optimistic, human-condition theme of love and connection.
"We joked with the idea of the concert being 'light and dark,' but the bottom line is we have a lot of tunes and want to share them in a show together. It will be primarily solo songwriter stuff that we will trade on and off. Both of us will have a few songs that will surprise folks, and we are going to have fun sharing some music in a beautiful place on a summer night."
Tickets are $5.
The following night, Sunday, August 12, will turn Celtic as the Portland-based Molly's Revenge rolls into town.
The Sisters Folk Festival veterans make up a dynamic, acoustic Celtic band known for infectious enthusiasm. The classic combination of bagpipes, whistle, and fiddle, with a backdrop of guitar, mandola, and bodhran guarantees an enjoyable experience for all fans of Scottish and Irish music.
Their arrangements of traditional Celtic jigs and reels bring these dance tunes up to date with a driving, hard-edged accent that always leaves audiences shouting for more.
Tickets for Molly's Revenge are $15.
