Edith S. Bird September 30, 1918 - August 3, 2012

Edith Bird, of Sisters, passed away on August 3.

Edith was born September 30, 1918 in Cerrito Sannita, Italy to Francesco and Rosalee Savelli. Her family immigrated to the United States, through Ellis Island the same year and settled in Bayonne, New Jersey, where her father made and repaired shoes.

She met her husband, Henry Bird, when she went to a dance where he was performing as a musician, and they were married in 1941. In 1948, they moved to Kennilworth, New Jersey. Her husband passed away in 1966 and Edith continued to live there until 2000, when she moved to Sisters to be closer to her daughter Pam.

Edith was an avid knitter. She also loved to read, play cards, solve various types of puzzles and work in her yard. She served as a SMART reader at Sisters Elementary and looked forward to seeing her friends every week at the Seniors' lunch.

She is survived by her daughter Pam Bird and son-in-law David Hewett.

At her request, there will be no memorial service.

Donations can be made to Partners In Care, Hospice of Bend.
