News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Folks in Sisters are getting set to enjoy a show by one of country music's up-and-coming acts while supporting the Lady Outlaws basketball program.
Supporters of the team have organized a fundraising concert, "Cloverdayle on Cloverdale," scheduled for Saturday, September 29 at a private residence at 17045 Farthing Ln., just off Cloverdale Road east of Sisters.
The name is a play on the name of the husband-and-wife duo Cloverdayle - Chad and Rachel Hamar. Julianne Horner connected with the group to spark the music-and-dinner event.
"They are friends from Portland," Horner said. "We've known them for quite a few years. They've really taken off in the country-and-western scene."
The duo recently finished recording their first full-length album in Nashville, titled "9 Miles Down a 10 Mile Road."
Since the duo formed in 2008, they have shared the stage with country artists like Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Wynonna Judd, Josh Turner, Eric Church, Jake Owen and Lee Brice.
With their career taking off, they made time for a special event in Sisters.
"I called them and they cleared their schedule and they're going to do a private concert for us," Horner said.
Tickets for the show and gourmet dinner are $75 per person, with proceeds going to support the girls basketball program. Funding for sports has become a difficult issue for the Sisters School District as budgets have shrunk in hard economic times. The schools are working on ways to raise funds and share them out among programs.
"We're starting this small," Horner noted. "This year it's girls basketball; next year it will be program-wide.
If there's a third year, proceeds could be distributed among all sports programs.
"I'd love to gift-wrap this and hand it over to all sports," Horner told The Nugget.
