Outlaws trample White Buffaloes on the gridiron

Sisters dominated play and crushed the White Buffaloes at Madras in a final score of 39-6 on Friday night, September 14, and recorded their second win of the season.

The Outlaws got on the scoreboard halfway through the first quarter. Quarterback Tristen Lewis threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Jackson, who broke through several tackles for the score. Sisters went for two, but the run failed.

A strong Outlaws defense forced Madras into a three-and-out and Sisters regained possession of the ball. Ethan Luloff took the punt return 63 yards and scored thanks to great blocks along the sidelines from Mitch Saba. After a failed pass attempt for two, the Outlaws were on top 12-0.

Luloff took a handoff from Lewis midway through the second quarter and scored on an 11-yard run, followed by Josh Andrade, whose kick for the PAT was good. The Outlaws pushed to a 19-0 advantage.

Sisters had another chance to score, but Lewis threw an interception at the 10-yard line. The White Buffaloes drove down the field but the Outlaws defense stopped them at the 20-yard line with an Isaac Jackson interception.

Four minutes into the third quarter, Luloff scored his third touchdown of the night. Ethan followed the blocks of Mitch Keranen and Kyle Wattenburg and scored on a 12-yard run. The extra point failed and Sisters went up 25-0.

Cole Moore intercepted a pass and Sisters regained possession of the ball. Lane Adams and Damon Morton cleared the way for Luloff, who scored on a 24-yard run. Andrade's kick was good and the Outlaws took a commanding 32-0 lead.

Tristen Kirshner intercepted the ball and the Outlaws again were in control. With three minutes left in the third, Moore scored on a 47-yard run. The line, consisting of Keranen, Wattenburg, Morton, Adams and Jacob Heath, opened a huge hole for Moore. Moore hit the gap and sprinted to the end zone to score. Andrade's kick was good and Sisters went up 39-0.

The White Buffaloes scored their lone touchdown with seven minutes left on the clock, and the score of 39-6 held until the end.

Sisters finished with 212 yards of rushing and 102 yards passing for a total of 314 total yards of offense. Madras had 86 yards rushing, 188 yards passing for a total of 274 yards of total offense.

Luloff had 23 carries for 144 yards, three touchdowns and a punt return for a touchdown.

Of Luloff, Coach Gary Hedin said, "Ethan is a sprinter on the track team and has a great feel. He follows the linemen well, and once he gets in the open he runs away."

Lewis was 3/11 passing for 102 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Fullback Nate Kaping had four carries for 19 yards. Kaping had a huge catch in the third quarter for 38 yards that allowed the Outlaws to keep the drive alive.

Jackson had one catch for 54 yards and a touchdown, and Moore had two rushes for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Hedin had praise for the Outlaws defense.

"Our defense did a tremendous job tonight and shut out Madras," said Hedin. "We had three interceptions and a fumble recovery. Mitch (Keranen) was a dominant force for us tonight on both the offensive and defensive line. Madras has some very good athletes on their team, and we were able to keep them out of their end zone."

The Outlaws will play at home against Cascade on Friday, September 21. Hedin told The Nugget it should be a very good game. The Cougars are coached by Steve Turner, who coached at state-champion Mountain View last year.
