Canyon Creek Fire 30 percent contained

Firefighters on the Canyon Creek Fire are making good progress. At 3 pm Monday the incident commander reported the fire was 100 percent lined and 30 percent contained. The 40-acre fire is located near Jack Lake, approximately 5 miles northwest of Camp Sherman. Three helicopters remain committed to the fire and are making water drops supporting the firefighters on the ground. This afternoon, there is minimal fire activity and crews are performing mop up operations and securing existing lines.

The Canyon Creek fire was reported late Saturday afternoon, and grew to about 40 acres on Sunday. The moderating fall weather has assisted fire fighters with slightly cooler temperatures, higher humidity and light winds, decreasing fire behavior.

The public is asked to stay out of the area. Roads and trails are being closed around the area to protect public safety.

• Road 12 will remain open as well as Rd 1210 to Round Lake.

• Jack Creek Campground has been closed.

• Jack Lake and Booth Lake areas are closed.

• Round Lake Trail #4012 and the Minto Lake Trail #4006 are closed.

• The Summit Trail from Square Lake to Wasco Lake are closed.

• The Canyon Creek Trail #4010 to Canyon Creek Meadows is closed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
