News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters lost 26-8 to Cascade on Friday, September 21, in a tough battle against the Cougars. The game was scheduled to be played in Sisters but, due to the smoky conditions, the contest was moved to Summit High School.
The Outlaws scored their one - and only - touchdown of the night with six minutes left in the first quarter. Dexter Muller stepped in front of the Cougar's fullback and intercepted the ball at midfield. Muller took to the open field, outran everyone in sight and sprinted into the end zone to score.
Sisters set up for a play action pass but since the field was open, quarterback Tristen Lewis took the ball and ran it in for two points which put the Outlaws up 8-0.
Cascade scored a TD with 1:10 remaining in the first quarter and narrowed the Outlaws lead to 8-6.
The Cougars scored a touchdown in the second quarter and held a 12-8 advantage at the half.
Cascade tacked on seven points in the third quarter and another seven in the fourth to secure the win.
Ethan Luloff had 17 carries for 106 yards. The Outlaws threw for 100 yards and rushed for 136 yards for 236 yards of total offense. The Cougars threw for 145 yards and rushed for 316 yards for 461 yards of total offense.
"We didn't convert on several third downs, and we fumbled three times," said Coach Gary Hedin. "The Cougars fumbled also, but we couldn't capitalize and they did. We had mistakes at inopportune times. We got down to the red zone four times and were inside the 20, but we didn't come away with points."
Hedin made note of Mitch Saba and his boundless energy.
"Mitch just flew around the field and played with a lot of energy," said Hedin. "It didn't matter what the situation was, he played with a lot of intensity."
The Outlaws will open league play at home against the Sweet Home Huskies on Friday, September 28.
