News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws football team put up a valiant effort at home in the league opener against Sweet Home on Friday, September 28, but the Huskies amassed 43 points in the second half and defeated the Outlaws in a final score of 61-20.
Sisters had a great first half and scored the first touchdown of the night with 3:30 to go in the first quarter. Quarterback Tristen Lewis faked a handoff to Ethan Luloff and made a great throw to Nathan Kaping, who caught the five-yard pass in the end zone. The extra point failed, but Sisters went up 6-0.
In less than two minutes the Huskies scored on a 50-yard run. At the end of the first quarter the score was tied up at 6-6.
Ethan Luloff scored Sisters' second TD of the night just 10 seconds into the second quarter. Luloff took a handoff from Lewis and scored on a two-yard run. Josh Andrade's kick for the extra point was good and Sisters regained the lead at 13-6.
The Huskies came right back on their next possession and scored on a four-yard run. The extra point failed and Sisters held on to a slim 13-12 advantage.
Halfway through the quarter Luloff took a handoff from Lewis and ran eight yards for a TD behind great blocks by Mitch Keranen and Dexter Muller. Andrade was good for the PAT and Sisters opened their lead to 20-12.
Sweet Home answered quickly and scored on a 70-yard pass with four-and-a-half minutes left in the half. The Huskies went for two but the run failed and at the half Sisters was still on top 20-18.
Sweet Home completely shut down the Outlaws in the second half. The Huskies scored 16 points in the third quarter and added 27 more points in the fourth to outscore the Outlaws 43-0 in the half and win the game by 41 points.
Ethan Luloff ran for 129 yards and scored two touchdowns.
"Ethan carries the ball at least 25 times per game and that's a lot of work," said Coach Gary Hedin.
Lewis was 14/27 for 168 yards passing with one touchdown and one interception.
Regarding the interception, Hedin said, "We were moving down the field and we threw the ball deep. They (Huskies) intercepted and ran it in to score with only one second left in the game.
"We could have kept the score closer but we took some chances to try and keep in the game," said Hedin. "If there's time on the clock we're still going to compete."
The Outlaws will face a tough Junction City squad at home on Friday, October 5.
