Partida appointed Hispanic advocate

The Hispanic Coalition of Sisters has appointed Irlanda Partida to serve as the advocate for Latinos in the Sisters community. In its second year, the advocate program is a collaborative endeavor by the Sisters Park & Recreation District, the Hispanic Coalition of Sisters, and the Sisters School District to provide a liaison between Latinos and the residents of Sisters.

In recognition of the need to provide a bridge between the growing Latino population in Sisters and the Sisters School District and other local agencies and businesses, the Oregon Community Foundation-Latino Partnership Project provided funding for the advocate position. The aim of the advocacy program is to communicate the needs of Latinos so as to assist them in receiving necessary services in such areas as education, health, child care, recreation, and housing.

Irlanda succeeds Rossy Gomez-Pullig, who previously held the position.

She and her husband and four children have resided in Sisters for five years. In addition to working as a manager in the hospitality industry in Camp Sherman, Irlanda has served as a coalition volunteer. She will spend 10 hours a week in the position, working from her office in the Sisters School District Administration building.
