Robert "Bob" Helwig February 21, 1935 - September 28, 2012

Robert James Helwig was born February 21, 1935 in Webster, South Dakota, to Anton and Isabel Helwig.

On September 28, 2012, he passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family after a year-long battle with cancer.

He graduated from Los Gatos High School class of 1953. He was a long-time member of Los Gatos Lions Club, where he dedicated countless hours to volunteer in the community. Bob was partners with oldest son Robert Jr. as general contractors Helwig & Son Builders.

Bob & Evonne retired in 2001 to Sisters, where he became very active with Habitat for Humanity and Kiwanis. He was much loved through his presence in the community.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Evonne Helwig. Father to Robert, Jr. of Sisters; Lorena (Dale) Thurman of Olympia, WA; Bonnie (Richard) Harper of Sisters; Kristina Helwig of Bend. Grandfather to Jessica & Ryan (Bonnie), Lauren (Kristina), Alyson and Rodney, Jr. (Rodney). Great-grandfather to Jordan and Kyle (Jessica) John, Hailey and Aiden (Lauren), Kamden & Julian (Alyson). Siblings Vern, Donald, and Carol.

Bob was preceded in death by parents Anton and Isabel Helwig, and son Rodney Helwig.

A celebration of life will take place after the family has had some time to mend.
