â¯Three Creeks Brewing Co. hosted its first-ever Chili Pepper Chili Challenge last Friday night.
There were five competitors: The Porch, FivePine Lodge Conference Center, The Open Door, Los Agaves and Three Creek Brewery. The Porch took the honors, with FivePine taking runner-up.
"Thanks to all the chefs that competed, we had a great time and enjoyed the creativity and varied styles within the competition," said Three Creeks owner Wade Underwood.
Eight brave individuals took on the Habanero Wing Challenge.
"We put two pounds (about 26 wings) with plenty of sauce in front of them, and started the five-minute time clock," Underwood reported. "I witnessed a few tears, lots of sweat, significant consumption of liquids with the hope of a cooling effect and not a small amount of discomfort on the faces of our competitors."
Dave Crosier was the winner.
Underwood reported that Crosier explained his strategy as something like: "I decided my strategy was to only breathe through my nose, and just eat."
Underwood considers the event was a spicy success.
"It was the most lively, and most fun event we've had here at the pub," he said.
