Sisters woman named rodeo Miss Northwest

Sara Marcus, 20, of Sisters, was selected as 2013's Miss Northwest Professional Rodeo Association (NPRA) during the 2012 NPRA Finals held in Prineville September 21-22. Her official reign will begin January 1, 2013.

She will represent the NPRA at numerous rodeos, parades, and civic events throughout the Northwest. In addition to the title, Sara won the category awards for Appearance, Personality, Knowledge, and Horsemanship.

Sara is the daughter of Bob and Jeri Buckmann and Ron Marcus. She is a 2010 graduate of Sisters High School, where she participated in the Oregon High School Equestrian Team and Tri-County High School Rodeo. Sara's previous titles included 2007 Central Oregon Pee Wee Rodeo Association Princess, 2011 Spray Rodeo Queen, and 2012 Sisters Rodeo Queen. In addition to representing the sport of rodeo, Sara competes in barrel racing at NPRA rodeos throughout the Northwest.

Sara is currently working toward an associate's degree in criminal justice at Central Oregon Community College. She plans to transfer to the University of Oregon to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology and eventually work for the FBI as a criminal

profiler.

"Becoming Miss NPRA gives me an opportunity to travel across the Northwest while promoting the largest regional rodeo association in the United States," Marcus said. "This sport represents not only the cowboys and cowgirls who compete, but also the family values and Western heritage held with the hearts of everyone involved."
