Girls soccer wins two

The Lady Outlaws posted two league wins this past week to move into second place in league standings. Sisters clipped the Hawks 5-0 at La Pine on Tuesday, October 2, and on Thursday earned a 3-0 victory over Sweet Home.

In Tuesday's action against La Pine, Haley Carlson scored Sisters' first two goals of the game. The first goal came off a corner kick at the four-minute mark. Carlson sent an amazing curved ball from the left corner up into the top left corner of the net.

"Scoring from a corner kick is a very rare occurrence in boys and girls soccer at the collegiate and professional level," stated Coach Tehan. "It was just an amazing shot."

Five minutes later Carlson knocked in her second goal. Carlson and Natalie Ambrose made some great passes as they moved up the field, and then Haley dribbled the ball past a defender into the 18-yard box and nailed a shot into the left side for the score.

In the 22nd minute Liz Stewart scored to put the Outlaws up 3-0. Carlson served a perfect corner kick and Stewart headed the ball into the right corner of the goal.

The Outlaws tacked on another goal 14 minutes later when Ambrose dribbled the ball through four defenders into the 18-yard box and took a shot that landed in the left corner of the net. Sisters controlled the ball the final four minutes and entered the half with a 4-0 advantage.

Sisters' final goal came at the 62-minute mark. Boston Moore crossed a great ball right to the feet of Stewart, who dribbled through two La Pine defenders and found the back of the net from inside the 18-yard box. The Outlaws held off the Hawks until the final whistle and posted the win.

Tehan told The Nugget that Moore and Carlson both had breakthrough games.

"At outside midfielder, Boston was making great combination plays up the side and then beating players into the middle to make some great crosses," said Tehan. "She is a great athlete, extremely fast, tenacious and hardworking. She knows where the balls need to get to and how to keep the game flowing, delivering perfect one-touch passes to help break up the other team's defense.

"Haley scored her first two goals of the season," added Tehan. "She is always serving in great crosses for others to score off of so it was nice to see her get some goals at the end of her hard work as an outside midfielder."

Tehan was able to get a lot of players onto the field in the second half. First-year players Naomi Eckstine and Michaela Conrads made some strong runs and passes at the forward position, and Tehan noted the tremendous progress they have made since the start of the year.

The Outlaws played a very strong game and dominated possession the entire contest.

"We were able to work the ball around the field, switching sides of play and then sending the ball up the field for some great crosses," stated Tehan.

Two days later, the Outlaws beat the Huskies 3-1 in Sweet Home (SH).

Sisters' first goal came from Michaela Miller at the 15-minute mark. Miller took advantage of a bad clear from SH defense inside the 18-yard box and drove the ball into the upper left corner of the goal.

Fourteen minutes later, Stewart scored. Liz volleyed a perfect corner kick cross from Haley Carlson into the right side of the goal.

The Huskies scored eight minutes before the half to narrow the Outlaws' lead to 2-1.

Sisters dominated play the entire second half but didn't score their final goal until the end.

The Outlaws are currently in second place in league, just behind Junction City, who beat Sisters 1-0 earlier in the season.
