Kirchoff joins Sisters therapist office

Therapist Matt Kirchoff is stepping into a new role with Therapeutic Associates.

The Bend therapist is now in the Sisters office several days a week, seeing patients and taking on administrative duties for the practice. This comes as the lead therapist in Sisters, Gary Keown, begins his transition toward retirement. Keown continues to see patients, but is stepping away from the operation of the practice.

"Gary is still seeing patients out here every day," Kirchoff noted.

Kirchoff himself is originally from Portland, and obtained his degree from the University of Puget Sound. He didn't originally plan a career in physical therapy, but like many in the field, he had an experience that came as a kind of epiphany.

"I broke my ankle when I was kind of on a pre-med track," he said.

He quickly became fascinated by the field.

"It really draws one into the profession," he said. "I've talked to a lot of physical therapists; traumatic injury kind of sparked their interest."

Kirchoff and his wife moved to Bend for the Central Oregon lifestyle and he continues to see patients there.

Kirchoff specializes in pediatrics - from sports injuries to congenital problems. He also works a lot with patients dealing with dizziness and vertigo, and he likes to employ aquatic therapy.

Access to the pool at Sisters Athletic Club is a key element of Therapeutic Associates' practice.

"We wanted to stay in this facility," Kirchoff said. "Both Gary and I do aquatic therapy, so it's nice to have the pool at the club."

In addition to his accustomed role as a therapist, Kirchoff is also handling administrative duties, including marketing. He welcomes the challenges of stepping into the business role.

"It's exciting and kind of overwhelming at the same time," he said. "I have a lot of great mentors within the company."

Therapeutic Associates is located at 1011 Desperado Trail, #201 in Sisters. For more information call 541-549-3574.
