Sisters salutes...

This may be a bit delayed, but my mother taught me there is no such thing as a late thank-you. So I'd like to salute the Sisters cross-country and boys soccer teams.

A couple weeks ago cross-country was competing in a meet in Cottage Grove and the boys' soccer team was playing there, too. The cross-country team had finished their races and could have headed back home, but chose to value supporting another Sisters team, and came over to watch the boys soccer game.

Thank you, Coach Kanzig, for fostering this decision.

The boys hadn't beaten Cottage Grove at their home field in eight years, so this was a big game for them. Being an away game, there weren't many fans present. Just before the whistle blows to begin the game, in walks the cross-country team ready to support their school and community. Their cheers were so loud and encouraging the boys initially thought it was the Cottage Grove fans. To their surprise, it was for them! I have to believe that it contributed to the energy that carried the boys through their first-time victory over Cottage Grove.

This energy was also enhanced by the boys' positive and encouraging attitude as well as their common goal to play like a strong and dominant unit on the field. My salute also goes out to the boys soccer coaches, Coach Jensen and Coach Draxler, who have prepared the boys to play up to their potential. There have also been many volunteer coaches that have been coming out to share their expertise with the boys: Coach Benson, Coach Ralph, Coach Holden, and Coach Corrigan. Their input has been priceless!

It has been awesome to see the boys playing well and having fun together. Thank you to both teams for displaying the positive and supportive culture of Sisters.
