News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Lady Outlaws continue winning ways on soccer pitch

The Lady Outlaws won both their games this past week and were scheduled to play Junction City for the league title on Monday, October 29, at Cottage Grove.

Sisters shut out La Pine 6-0 at home on Monday, October 22, and two days later beat Sweet Home 3-1 at home in Sisters.

On Monday, Liz Stewart got a hat trick in the first half and scored all three of Sisters' first-half goals. Stewart's first goal came in the sixth minute of play. Haley Carlson sent in a beautiful corner kick and Liz connected a volley into the back of the net. Her second goal came at the 11-minute mark when she worked the ball up through the midfield and took a great shot outside of the 18-yard box. Stewart's third goal came 23 minutes later. Liz won a loose ball in the 18-yard box and sent it past the keeper for the goal.

At the half Sisters held a 3-0 lead.

Emily Corrigan scored seven minutes into the second half. Boston Moore passed to Corrigan in the 18-yard box and Emily punched it in for the score.

Four minutes later Michaela Miller showed off her great footwork, created space for herself and then sent the ball into the back of the net for Sisters' fifth goal.

The Outlaws scored their final goal with five minutes left on the clock. Jenny O'Conner placed a perfect cross from Danielle Rudinski into the goal and Sisters recorded the win.

Coach Audrey Tehan was pleased with the performances of her newest players.

"Today I saw the best games of the season from our newest players: Naomi Eckstine, Michaela Conrads, Kylie Cross and Jenny O'Conner," said Tehan. "All these girls' hard work has really paid off."

Two days later the Outlaws posted a 3-1 win in an exciting game against the Huskies. Sisters needed the win in order to stay tied with Junction City for the league title.

Sweet Home (SH) scored the first goal of the game at the 13-minute mark.

"They (SH) were determined to get to the ball and had a great build-up from the midfield," stated Tehan. "Their forwards just beat our defenders to the ball and made a great shot. It was a big wake-up call for the girls, and they realized it was going to be a battle."

Haley Carlson scored in the 25th minute to even the score at 1-1. Dani Rudinski sent an amazing cross right in front of the goal and Carlson volleyed the ball into the net for the goal.

At the close of the first half, the score was deadlocked at 1-1.

Sisters stepped onto the field in the second half, took control and dominated play.

At the 63-minute mark, Corrigan scored to put Sisters on top at 2-1. Emily captured a loose ball and drove through the keeper and two defenders to touch the ball into the net for the goal.

The Outlaws' final goal came with seven minutes left on the clock, when Stewart scored on a penalty-kick shot.

Tehan had praise for several of her players.

"Danielle (Rudinski) is a great play-maker and works extremely hard at outside midfielder," stated Tehan. "She never stops running and has become a cornerstone of our midfield. Boston Moore, who has stepped in at midfield due to Natalie Ambrose's injury, has played tremendously. She made great tackles and sent great balls into our attacking end of the field. She's stepped up in a big way, and it is very impressive to see. Tina (Horner) played great defense for us, being physical and not letting players go unchallenged."

Tehan also told The Nugget that the defensive line of Megan Connoly, Liz Stewart, Michaela Miller and Clare Henson proved strong in the game.
