Martha "Meta" Marion Bood April 30, 1921 - October 20, 2012

Martha "Meta" Marion Bood, of Sisters, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 of natural causes. She was 91.

A family memorial will be held in Sisters at a later date.

Mrs. Bood was born April 30, 1921 in West Warwick, Rhode Island, the daughter of Swedish immigrants Carl Linus and Anna Maria Johnson.

Martha was proud to work as an airplane riveter during World War II. She married John Edward Bood on February 28, 1945, in West Warwick, Rhode Island.

In Pontiac, Rhode Island, she was a stay-at-home mom, raising their eight rambunctious children until 1961.

In the summer of 1961, Martha and her family moved across the United States to a farm in Tumalo.

She continued being a stay-at-home mom and helping out on the farm until her family moved to Bend in 1965.

While in Bend, Martha started helping her husband build beautiful custom-built post-and-beam homes near Sisters.

After living in Bend for a year, her family moved to Sisters.

She continued to help her husband build homes for several years after moving to Sisters.

In 1974, she began working at Black Butte in the housekeeping department and enjoyed working there for close to 20 years.

Mrs. Bood enjoyed cooking, especially for her large family. She had a green thumb and loved gardening. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting. Above all, she loved being surrounded by her large family and was very proud of all of

them.

She was able to stay, with the help of her daughter Bevy, in the post-and-beam house she and her husband built until the day she passed away.

Survivors include her five daughters, Beverly Merritt of Sisters, Linda Mathieson of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, Nancy Huff of Joseph, Joyce Dorsey of Dayton and Barbara Nelson of Burns; three sons, Gary of Baker City, Roy of Vancouver, Washington and Jason of Pleasant Hill; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers, a sister, her husband and granddaughter.
