News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The girls soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss at Molalla on Tuesday, November 6, in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
Sisters came out strong in the first half with seven shots on goal compared to Molalla, who only had two. Unfortunately, none of the Outlaws' shots reached the back of the net and the teams entered the half tied 0-0.
Molalla scored at the 57th minute to go up 1-0. The Indians executed on a one-on-one situation and slid the ball into the net for the goal.
A free kick was given outside of the Outlaws' 18-yard box and Molalla placed a perfect shot in the upper-right-hand corner of the net to go up 2-0. The Indians held on until the final whistle sounded to end the game.
Conditions were wet and slippery and proved to be a challenge for the Outlaws.
"It was extremely wet and muddy and our girls just kept slipping all over the place when they tried to change directions very quickly," said Coach Audrey Tehan. "Any time the ball went out of play our players were picking the grass clumps out of their cleats."
Of the game, Tehan said, "The girls played as hard as they could and played very good, smart soccer. They kept trying until the final seconds of the game. There is no way I could be disappointed with their play.
"It was a hard game to lose because we were of equal, if not a better team than Molalla," added Tehan. "But that's how soccer can go. Molalla was able to execute on two of their six opportunities and we just couldn't get the ball past their goalkeeper."
