Students are 'future business leaders'

At the beginning of the school year six Sisters High School seniors with a strong interest in business and leadership careers reactivated the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter in Sisters.

FBLA is the largest and oldest student organization in the United States. The business education association helps prepare students for careers in business with a wide variety of competitive business-related events at regional, state and national levels.

Students have the opportunity to learn and compete in individual and team events which include: business planning, emerging business issues, public speaking, job interviews, website and network design, and sports management and many others, according to student advisor Janie Sampson.

Local seniors are excited and committed to building the FBLA organization and the administration has been fully supportive.

Last week, FBLA officers Dillon Witt and Harley Bowler and advisor Janie Sampson attended the Oregon Leadership Institute (OLI) a statewide conference of over 400 high school students from 30 high schools, held in Bend.

The two-day leadership conference offered a wide range of leadership courses including: business and financial management, parliamentary procedure and individual and group leadership sessions. The OLI conference kicked off with a lively session of "Mission Possible" team-building exercises and concluded with a formal etiquette dinner.

All high school students may join FBLA and can contact Janie Sampson at 541-549-4045 for more information.
