News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
HarmonyHouse will host David Jacobs-Strain in a return engagement on Saturday, January 12.
His powerful voice and extraordinary guitar work, blended with his haunting and profound lyrics, make for a night to be remembered.
"David captivated the audiences of this past Sisters Folk Festival, and it is always such a pleasure to bring him back to the HarmonyHouse," said Katie Cavanaugh, who hosts the HarmonyHouse house concert series with husband Doug. "He has been touring all over the country and opening for major artists, but returning to Sisters is like coming home for him. So, let's welcome him home!"
David Jacobs-Strain is a virtuoso slide guitar player and a storyteller with a passionate one-man show that is both humorous and deeply lyrical.
David's new record, "Live From The Left Coast," features harmonica legend Bob Beach. "Rainbow Junkies" could be a lost Jimmie Page tune, "Hurricane Railroad" grooves like a young David Lindley, while "Dirt And Wildflowers" is a quirky but sexy revelation. The cascading harmonics and retro-tinted lyrics of "Halfway To The Coast" and "Pescadero Beach" evoke the damaged but wild Northwest: heartbroken but beautiful, melodic and spare.
Bending notes with a slide guitar elicits the most invigorating, emotional sounds in popular music.
"There's a primal sound to the slide," he says. "I like how I get the slide to sneak around in my songs, showing up in unexpected places, from mellow tunes to hard rock."
HarmonyHouse is located at 17505 Kent Rd. (off Cloverdale Road) east of Sisters. Audience members are invited to bring their own refreshments and snacks to share. Doors open at 7 p.m.; music begins at 8 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $15-$20.
