News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Phillip Dee (Phil) Jacques, Sr. August 25, 1951 - January 5, 2013

Phillip Dee (Phil) Jacques Sr. was born August 25, 1951 in Redmond to Alice (Russell) Sorenson of Spokane, WA and Coy Gaston of Fountain City, IN. On the day of his birth Phil was adopted by Benjamin and Roberta (Kinnan) Jacques of Redmond. Phil passed away January 5, 2013 in the Bend Hospice, surrounded by his loving family after a long illness.

After being raised and attending school in Redmond all his life, his family, having built Jacques Chevrolet in Redmond and selling out, moved Phil to Burns buying the Chevrolet, Buick, Jeep dealership there in December of 1968, where Phil graduated high school in 1969.

Phil married Connie Ward of Sisters in the fall of 1969. Leaving Sisters, they moved to Longview, WA, in 1973 after buying Olympia Beer Distributorship in Kelso, WA. They sold the beer business, it not being Phil's niche in life, and Phil went back to the automobile business a few years later.

Phil attended Central Oregon Community College, various trade schools and General Motors training schools, making his living for over 40 years in the automobile and RV industry, eventually opening Mr. RV in Longview, WA. Retiring from that business in 2012. Due to his health he moved to Sisters last March to be near family. Phil and Connie divorced in 2002 and remained friends.

Known as Mr. RV, Phil, always quick with a joke - and he had many - never met a stranger. Phil's passions were fishing, hunting, and cars. He restored several and loved every minute of it.

Phil is survived by Connie and their three children, Phillip Jacques Jr. of Longview, WA; Justin Jacques; and Amanda (Casey) Moore; as well as three grandchildren, Kinzi, Easton and Reese Moore of Sisters; sisters, Christine Halvorson of Spokane, WA; Nancy (Don) Cowles of Cheney, WA; and Judy Sorenson of Portland; Pamela Gaston, Veronica (Steve) Console of California, and Conita (Ron) Powers-Livingston of Bedford, IN; brothers Larry (Susan) Larson, Spokane, WA; and his other brother Daryl Gaston of Fountain City, IN; plus many nieces; nephews; his very special step-mom, Peggy Gaston of Fountain City, IN; and best friend and companion "Sadie," his dog.

Phil was preceded in death by his mothers Alice and Roberta; and fathers Coy and Ben; and a nephew, Cory Halvorson.

Phil wanted to be remembered as the life of the party. Always ready for a good time and loved being with and entertaining friends and family.

Per Phil's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Partners In Care, 2075 N.E. Wyatt Ct., Bend, OR 97701. Call 541-382-5882.

Baird Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.
