News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters promoter Richard Esterman is adding to his roster of events for 2013.
In addition to Sisters Art in the Park, Sisters Art & Crafts Festival, Sisters Antiques in the Park, and Sisters Fall Street Festival, Esterman will bring a Quilt Show weekend event July 12-14 called Sisters Artist Marketplace, and an August 24-25 Sisters Wild West Show.
He is also putting on a new Redmond Street Festival in that city June 15-16.
Esterman, a professional photographer, has run events on a for-profit basis part-time.
"I'm switching gears and putting (photography) part-time and going into promoting and organizing full-time," Esterman told The Nugget. "My plans are: this year seven events; next year 10 events."
The Wild West Show will "feature the Old West with demonstrations, Native American and Western entertainment similar to the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. There will be Native American and Western art and crafts," Esterman notes.
The promoter told The Nugget that he does not see the event as being in competition with the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce's long-established Sisters Western & Native American Arts Festival.
"The difference is that the exhibitors are going to be required to dress up for the time," Esterman said. "It's a history show; it's going to be educational."
The Sisters Artist Marketplace will be housed on the grounds of the Sisters School District Administration Office and will feature arts, crafts and live entertainment June 12-14, with hours running 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Quilt Show Saturday. Esterman said he hopes the additional activity and extended hours will keep Quilt Show patrons circulating in town.
Esterman said he wants to work together with businesses and organizations in Sisters to increase tourism.
"We need to bring business to this town, and whatever we can do to bring it (should be pursued)," he said. "I want to increase tourism here. We're a tourist town; that's a fact."
The promoter said he is for the first time offering sponsorships at different levels to local businesses.
