Next meeting set on Cascade Avenue project

The next community meeting for the Cascade Avenue improvement project is set for Wednesday, January 23 from 8 to 10 a.m. at Sisters City Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to report back to Cascade Avenue business and property owners about the placement of streetscape features, most notably street trees and other landscape features.

The streetscape design team, SERA Architects, and Green Works Design met with individual business and property owners in early January to hear concerns about street tree placement and business visibility. The design team listened to concerns and has revised plans where possible.

"In some cases, individual concerns will be able to be accommodated, in others not. It all has to do with the relationship of street tree locations to other features such as curb extensions, stormwater retention features, and symmetry in design," stated City Manager Eileen Stein. "For example, in the case of the block between Oak and Pine, one idea discussed was to remove every other street tree on both sides of the street. This will open up visibility to the adjacent business, but still retain the symmetry of the tree placement on that block."
