News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters stayed focused and determined in their game against La Pine on Friday, February 1, and finished with a 58-38 victory.
The Hawks came out with a box-and-one on Taylor Nieri to try and stifle the Outlaws' offense. Savannah Spear hit two buckets and one three-pointer to answer back. At the close of the first quarter Sisters held a 14-7 lead.
A slowed-down tempo and many fouls made it a struggle for the Outlaws in the second quarter. Cassidy Edwards was able to score four points and Nieri, Spear, and Jacobie Petterson all made easy buckets to give the Outlaws a 24-17 advantage at the half.
La Pine's Nickel scored four buckets from the field and a three-pointer in the first half to keep the Hawks in the game.
The third quarter belonged to the Outlaws. Nieri scored 12 points and Harley Rowe added seven in the scoring effort. Sisters outscored the Hawks 21-14 in the quarter to push the Outlaws to a 45-31 lead.
Nieri went 6/6 from the free-throw line in the final quarter and also got an easy bucket to secure the Outlaws' win.
Nieri led the team in scoring with 20 points. Taylor also pulled down five rebounds, dished out two assists and was a perfect 12/12 from the line.
Spear tallied nine points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists. Claire Henson led the team with seven rebounds and had six points in the game. Jacobie Petterson added five points, three rebounds, and three assists.
Coach Julianne Horner said, "We were able to have every player try out the adjustments made over the long bye week. Again, these girls exceed my expectations and continue to push hard, play hard, and get the job done. This felt like a team win with everyone contributing and excited to play. As a coach you can't ask for anything more from a team. I'm so proud of these young women."
The Lady Outlaws will be on the road for the next several games. Sisters will play at Junction City on Friday, February 8, and the following Tuesday will play at Cottage Grove.
