News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters Outlaws alpine ski team took fourth place in both the boys and girls giant slalom races in the Bend Bachelor Butte Bash alpine ski event on Saturday. The Bend High team swept 1st place in both boys and girls races, with Summit taking 2nd place.
For the Outlaw girls, Cammi Benson captured a ninth-place finish with an overall time of 1 minute 32.98 seconds for the day. Betsy Ausman and Danielle Rudinsky both added points for the team.
Dillon Witt paced the Outlaw boys with a strong 10th place on his first run and finished with an overall time of 1 minute and 28.82 second time, for 14th place on the day. Kyle Wattenburg and Yasha Saldi turned in solid times of 1 minute 33.05 seconds and 1 minute 34.70 seconds, respectively.
However, the Outlaw boys were edged out of third place by two seconds by the Redmond team.
The Outlaws compete among 85 racers from Bend, Summit, Redmond, Ridgeview, Lakeview and Crook County in the Oregon School Ski Association.
"The Outlaw skiers match up and compete head-to-head with the Redmond team each week," said Coach Greg Ausman. "Last week we took them. This week it was their turn. However, our Outlaw skiers are racing well and turning in some of their best times of the season, and I hope we just keep that pace as we approach the OSSA championship races in three weeks."
The Outlaws have the week off this week and resume racing on February 23 at Mt. Bachelor before the OSSA Championship races March 1-2.
