Outlaws wrestlers tally win over Ridgeview

The Outlaws wrestling squad posted a 43-16 win over the Ridgeview junior varsity on Thursday, February 7. Sisters took nine wrestlers to the meet and recorded eight wins of the 11 matches wrestled, six of which were pins.

Clayton Darst and Mark Fish both won two matches. Darst (145 pounds) pinned Jack Hamilton and Vaughn Robinson, and Fish (138 pounds) pinned Christian Shortreed and Ricky Clark.

Dyut Fetrow (120 pounds) and Randon Elliott (126 pounds) also pinned their opponents. Fetrow won by a fall over Corbin Carpenter, and Elliot pinned Alex Palacios.

Mitch Gibney (160 pounds) beat Luke Hunington 4-1, and Mikael Savola beat Reuben Juaregui in an 8-7 decision.

"These young wrestlers are giving me a great insight to how well the team is improving and competing against other teams and wrestlers at their same age," said Coach John Downs. "Being able to have my young varsity wrestlers go up against JV teams instead of varsity gives them a chance to wrestle opponents at the same age and skill level. I feel what makes us successful is because my young wrestlers have to train harder to compete with mostly varsity wrestlers, who on the average are a junior or senior with many years of experience."

Downs added, "I am especially proud of Clayton (Durst) and Mark (Fish), who wrestled two matches each. They both pinned their opponents and gave the team four of the six pins of the night. Randon Elliott made improvement this week and wrestled his most aggressive match of the season and earned himself a pin."
