Kickstarter campaign to fund The Belfry Project

Lots of folks use Kickstarter to raise funds to create a CD. Lots of those artists play at The Belfry. Now, Angeline Rhett is using the innovative crowd-sourcing program to fund renovations and enhancements at the Sisters venue.

"Our goal is to offer a space where community can come together for celebration, fundraising, collaboration, school events, and entertainment," Rhett says. "Purchasing The Belfry on a shoe string, we have done a lot with a little. Relying on the help from our community, used furniture from Habitat for Humanity, and a little good luck we were able to get up and running very quickly. In just a short time we've hosted/booked several fundraisers, science clubs, comedy night, school events (prom!), and - of course - amazing music."

Rhett has been hit with significant unexpected requirements from the City of Sisters and the state fire marshal's office, and some of the funds raised will be used to bring The Belfry into compliance so that it can be used for its intended purpose.

Rhett also wants to install a house sound system, lighting and a projector/movie screen. The goal is to professionalize the venue and make it more versatile for different types of groups and events.

Her goal is to raise $34,500 in a campaign lasting 44 days.

Kickstarter is an online project-funding resource. According Kickstarter, "every project creator sets their project's funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing."

Rhett's project is titled "I Rang the Bell! Updating The Belfry Community Events Space." Backers can support the project with contributions of $5 to $5,000 or more, with each tier receiving different acknowledgements for their sponsorship.

Rhett expected to launch her campaign Wednesday or Thursday of this week. To access the Kickstarter project, visit www.belfryevents.com and click on the link provided.
