Robert Joseph Tilson, Jr. died at 91 on February 2, in Palm Springs, California.
Bob was born in Fresno, California, on March 2, 1921, to Robert Joseph and Henrietta Tilson. He graduated from the University of Oregon and served in the U.S. Marine Corps as First Lieutenant during World War II, Pacific Fleet, and received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism. As a member of the Marine Reserves until 1957, he achieved the rank of Captain.
In 1942 he married Roberta ("Bobbie") Sinclair of Hood River. Bob worked as a furniture manufacturers' representative for 35 years. His passion was ranching and horses on their acreage near Forest Grove where he and Bobbie lived for 30 years. He was a member of the Forest Grove Rotary, Washington County Sheriff's Posse and Pacific Crest Trail Advisory Council, 1967-1970.
They began building their home in the Tollgate subdivision outside Sisters in 1979, and in 1986, after retiring, they moved to Sisters where he was involved in the Kiwanis Club. They shared their time in Sisters and at locations in Arizona and Palm Springs and then moved to Medford, where Bobbie passed away in 2003.
He had resided in Palm Springs since 2006. Bob is survived by five children: Linda Davis (Tom) of Sisters; Rick Tilson of Palm Springs, California; Craig Tilson (Elaine) of Federal Way, WA; Douglas Tilson (Luanne) of Beaverton; and Teri Harvey (Dale) of Bonny Lake, Washington; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Graveside services will be held at 10:15 a.m. March 8. Remembrances to Alzheimer's Association or favorite charity.
