News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed John Rivera this week as the organization's new part-time events coordinator.
First working seasonally in Central Oregon from 2001-2005, Rivera moved to Sisters Country full-time in 2005, where he worked as guest services director for Big Lake Youth Camp, located near Hoodoo Ski Area, until 2010. Rivera comes to the chamber with over a decade of experience in event planning and hospitality.
"I saw it as a fun opportunity to be part of the community in a really practical way," Rivera said of the position. "Really taking being a citizen or a community member to the next level."
"We are so pleased to welcome John to the Sisters chamber team," said Sisters Chamber Executive Director Erin Borla. "John's outgoing personality and passion for Sisters Country make him an excellent fit for our organization, events and community."
Rivera hopes to bring diversity to the chamber's offerings to "broaden the audience of Sisters," while "at the same time keeping those traditions. We love those things for a reason."
Rivera will be in the chamber office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and available by appointment on other days.
Originally from Aiea, Hawaii, John studied English at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, and has worked in journalism and publishing as a copy and content writer, as well as a personal and company blogger, and has published as both a religion and fashion columnist.
