News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Girls lacrosse plays well at tourney

The Lady Outlaws lacrosse players kicked of their season at the OGLA (Oregon Girls Lacrosse Association) State Tournament in Wilsonville with four tournament-length games. The Outlaws won three games and then lost in a very tight fourth and final game which was played in a torrential downpour.

Sisters matched up against Hood River in their first game of the tourney and walked away with a 3-2 win. Langley Vogt, at mid-attack, scored the Outlaws' first goal on a foul shot. Co-captains Maison Morgan and Harley Bowler each added a goal with support from Madelyn Zadow, Phoebe Smoot, and Sierra

Hummel.

Breanna Perry, Mackenzie Hendrickson, and Marissa Young did a great job on defense and held Hood River to two goals. Goalie Nikki Olsen recorded three saves in the game.

Coach Michele Hammer noted, "Taylor Schneider and Jenny O'Connor did a great job of moving the ball back to the attack players on goal."

The Outlaws went on to earn a 3-2 victory over Tigard with two goals from Bowler and a goal from Morgan thanks to a Smoot assist. Defensive players Sierra Hummel, Zadow, Schneider and O'Connor did a good job of defending the goal and held Tigard to just four shots on goal.

Sisters defeated Thursxton 4-0 in Thurston's first year to field a girls' lacrosse team. The Outlaws defense did a great job of holding off Thurston's offense, and prevented them from getting shots on goal. Both of the shots that were attempted were blocked by goalie Nikki Olsen.

Morgan scored three goals from center with assists from Zadow and Bowler. Vogt ran down the field from mid-attack and knocked in Sisters' final goal of the contest.

Sisters wrapped up tournament play against a tough Sunset team. The Outlaws battled in a downpour with rain coming down so hard it was difficult for players to see the ball.

Sunset jumped out and quickly scored two goals. It was difficult for the Outlaws to respond to Sunset's quick passing and strong

offense.

The Outlaws rallied back with goals from Morgan and O' Connor, who scored on her first attempt at playing attack. Sunset came right back and Sisters' defense was not able to stop them from scoring. The game ended in a 3-2 loss for the Outlaws.

Hammer stated, "Overall, the Outlaws did a great job in their first tournament experience."

Sisters will travel to Roseburg on Friday, March 22, for their first league game of the season.
