Outlaws baseball posts two big wins

The Outlaws kicked off their season with an 8-2 victory at home against Madras on Tuesday, March 12, and three days later tallied a 14-7 victory at home against Summit.

In Tuesday's action, Joey Morgan hit a single in the first inning to push across Sisters' first run of the contest. Justin Harrer also scored, and at the end of the first the Outlaws were up 2-0.

At the close of the fourth inning Sisters was still on top 3-1.

Singles by Morgan, Harrer, Jarden Weems, and freshmen Alex Johnson, Billy Biggers and Dillon Witt put multiple runners on base for the Outlaws in the fifth inning, which resulted in four runs and extended Sisters' lead to 7-1.

The Outlaws tacked on one run in the sixth. The White Buffaloes were able to score one run in the seventh, and the game ended in an 8-2 Sisters win.

Morgan was the starting pitcher for the Outlaws and Sam Calarco was behind the plate. Weems and Nicky Blumm each pitched two innings and Eli Boettner pitched one.

Weems, Harrer, and Boettner led the Outlaws, at the plate with two singles each. Blumm had one double on the day.

Coach Steve Hodges said, "It's always good to start with a win. We got a lot of people in the line-up and we only had one strike-out for the day. We played pretty good defense and that was nice to see."

On Friday, the Outlaws easily handled the Summit Storm. Sisters tallied 14 runs off nine hits and two errors.

Sisters had a tough start, and at the end of the second inning were down by five at 7-2.

The Outlaws came back strong in the fourth, scored eight runs, and took a 10-7 lead. Highlighting the inning was a single and RBI from Alex Olivier, a double from Eli Boettner and a single and RBI from Kody Kreminski.

Good defense, along with a strong effort from the mound, closed out the fifth inning. The Outlaws tacked on their three final runs in the sixth to secure the win.

Boettner pitched the final three innings to close out the game.

"Eli did what he needed to do," said Hodges. "He threw strikes, had zero walks, put the ball in play and got ahead of hitters."

Olivier (freshman) had his first varsity start in centerfield and did a nice job for the Outlaws. Alex also went 2/4 from the plate. Kreminski went 3/4 with two RBI.

The Outlaws will be in Arizona March 21-28 for spring training and several games.
