News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Edward N. Smith April 19, 1931 - March 30, 2013

Ed has departed our world as we know it and began his new adventure into his afterlife, following a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and comforted by their love, at his home in Sisters.

Ed served his country with great pride with the U.S. Army at the end of World War II, stationed in Germany, and again with the U.S. Navy in the Korean War, and served in the Chosin Reservoir battle.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Diana Hesson Smith, and his sons, Mike and Mark, daughter Theresa, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and lastly, his many friends.

At Ed's request, no formal service will be held, and no flowers to be sent. Please plant a tree or flower in Ed's memory. Ed and his big dog "Bud" will have their remains placed at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

A heartfelt thank-you to Ed's "Hospice Angels" and to his "train wreck Doc" Theodore Braich, M.D. Memorials may be sent to Partners in Care, 2075 N.E. Wyatt Ct., Bend, OR 97701.

Arrangements were made with compassion by Autumn Funerals of Redmond.
