Forest Service seeks trail volunteers

The Forest Service will train volunteers in trail skills in Camp Sherman in June. Those interested in registering for the annual training weekend are being asked to sign up by April 30.

Every year the Deschutes and Willamette National Forests and the Pacific Crest Trail Association host weekend trainings, called Trail Skills Colleges, which certify volunteers to do trail work for the Deschutes and Willamette National Forests. The sessions offered are designed to train both new and returning volunteers and allow volunteers to meet other interested people working to provide quality recreation experiences for forest visitors.

The training is free of charge and volunteers can attend the full weekend or only portions of the training if they want. Locally, the training college will be held at Allingham Guard Station near Camp Sherman, June 7-9. Registration for the trainings must be completed by April 30. To register for the trainings, people can visit the following site: http://www.highcascadesvolunteers.com/index.html.
