Boys lacrosse opens league with win

The Outlaws trounced the Mt. View Cougars 18-1 at home on April 12, in their first league game of the season.

Sisters scored quickly when Drew Corrigan fed Isaiah Glatz the ball just 15 seconds into the game. The scoring frenzy was on, and at the close of the first quarter the Outlaws had scored 10 goals.

The Outlaws defense was tenacious and gave the Mt. View team no time to rest.

"They are tough right now," said Coach Bill Rexford. "They play defense like velociraptors in Jurassic Park. One of them in your face is a handful, but then you get doubled from the side or behind and there isn't much you can do."

The offensive effort was a pleasant surprise for Rexford and he noted that the improvement was due to commitment and tough battles during practice.

"I think if we would have played Mt. View a couple of weeks ago the game would not have been lopsided," stated Rexford. "We both went to Boise and ... had similar results. The difference is that we have had a tougher schedule and were presented with a "to do' list of things to work on in order to get better."

Rexford added, "Credit deserves to go to the boys. They have responded. We handled defensive pressure well, the quality of our shots improved, we minimized turnovers, and our man-up offense scored on three of four opportunities. Small improvements in each area amounted to significant gains overall."

The game resulted in some impressive stats. Isaiah Glatz scored two goals for the Outlaws and recorded seven groundballs. Mitch Keranen scored three goals and posted one assist. Zach Valoppi knocked in four goals and Jens Stadeli and Porter Ford each contributed one goal and five groundballs. Casey Lane also tallied five groundballs in the contest.

The Outlaws will face Centennial High School of Idaho at home on Friday, April 19, and a day later, also at home, they will match up against Hermiston. The following Tuesday, April 23, the Outlaws will travel to Bend.
