Outlaws baseball No. 1 in Sky-Em

The Outlaws defeated the Sweet Home Huskies 3-2 at home in Sisters on Friday, April 19. The win pushed Sisters to a perfect 8-0 league record and keeps them at the top at No. 1. Two days earlier the Outlaws posted a 10-4 win at Cottage Grove.

It was a tight contest against the Huskies on Friday. In the third inning, the Huskies scored both of their runs on wild pitches and took a 2-0 advantage over the Outlaws.

Sisters rallied in the sixth and scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Joey Morgan led off with a double to the right field corner, Sam Calarco followed with a walk and then Eli Boettner hit a bunt single to load the bases. Alex Olivier hit a ground ball to third and the ball was overthrown to home which resulted in Sisters' first run of the game.

Dillon Witt walked to tie the game 2-2, and Nicky Blumm followed with a walk for the winning run.

Joey Morgan went the distance on the mound for the Outlaws and recorded 12 strike-outs. Morgan retired the side in order for the win.

Coach Steve Hodges said, "Joey really battled on the mound, and he was two-for-two at the plate. I just can't say enough about his performance on both sides of the ball. He really competed today and I'm very proud of him."

Hodges added, "Our offense has been strong most of the season, but today we didn't hit particularly well. But, we still battled and scratched and clawed for runs."

Weems did the job for the Outlaws two days earlier in their win at Cottage Grove. Jarden pitched the first five innings and recorded five strike-outs to earn the victory. Justin Harrer, Boettner, and Blumm closed out the sixth and seventh innings.

Sisters scored two runs with two outs in the first inning, with RBI singles from Boettner and Calarco. Morgan and Harrer followed with RBI singles in the second and Sisters took a 4-1 lead. The Outlaws tacked on two more in the third to push to a 6-1 advantage.

The Lions got three runs in the fifth, but the Outlaws came back with three runs in the seventh to secure the win.

Blumm recorded three singles in the game to lead the Outlaws at the plate. Weems went two-for-five as did Harrer, who also tallied two RBI. Morgan and Boettner were both two-for-four.

"We are hitting the ball hard and putting it in play," stated Hodges.

The Outlaws will face Elmira at home on Friday, April 26.
