Sisters to get a spring cleaning

Volunteers are invited to get out and enjoy spring together while supporting the community at Celebrate Sisters Day.

On Saturday, April 27, a cadre of volunteers will meet up to fulfill a variety of projects throughout Sisters Country.

The effort to spruce up Sisters is coordinated through the Sisters High School lacrosse program, with support from the Sisters School District, City of Sisters, Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce, Sisters Camp-Sherman Rural Fire Protection District, Sisters Park & Recreation District and more.

"This project will allow for all community members to work together," says Jim Golden, Sisters Schools superintendent. "The lacrosse program has managed an event for several years called 'Warrior Service Day' (to commemorate their equipment sponsor, Warrior Lacrosse) encouraging the players to spend a day supporting the school and completing community service projects. This program is valuable and encourages folks to give back to our great community. Opening the program up to all Sisters Country citizens this year will help to grow community spirit."

Celebrate Sisters Day will kick off on Saturday, April 27 at 9 a.m. Volunteers will meet at the Sisters Elementary School parking lot for their assigned duties. Projects are available for all skill and fitness levels and are designed to be completed within three hours. They include wood chipping at Sisters Elementary School and Sisters Middle School, and installing new nets at the elementary school tennis courts. Organizers are looking to hear suggestions for other cleanup activities around town.

Lunch will be provided after the event by the SPRD Community Dinner program, thanks to a grant from The Roundhouse Foundation.

In addition to volunteers, Celebrate Sisters Day needs equipment necessary to complete projects (shovels, rakes, materials for painting, ladders, wheelbarrows, etc.).
