Charlotte Stromsland October 22, 1917 - April 19, 2013

Charlotte Stromsland passed peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, April 19, surrounded by loving family at her daughter's home in Camp Sherman.

Born October 22, 1917, in Akron, Ohio, she was the only child of Carl and Charlotte Ganier. She moved to Chicago, Illinois, as a toddler, where she later graduated from Austin High School and then attended Northwestern University. In 1941 she married Emery Stromsland, the love of her life. The family moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1949, with Emery's business. In 1965, the family moved to Costa Mesa when Emery's company expanded again.

Charlotte created nurturing homes where she enjoyed flower gardens, creative cooking, and making her friends, family and visitors feel welcomed. She cultivated friendships that lasted, which gave her family a sense of community and belonging.

She was fortunate to be able to travel and also enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and community involvement.

When the children were young she was active with the PTA and later volunteered at the polls during elections.

In 1984, Charlotte and Emery retired to Ramona, near San Diego, California.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Emery.

Survivors include son Jon (Rosemarie) of Jamul, California; daughter Sue Leithauser (Floyd) of Camp Sherman; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was a member of First Congregational Church of Ramona.

Her family is grateful to Partners In Care Hospice of Bend for their faithful assistance during her illness.

Services will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
