Lady Outlaws top SALI tournament

The SALI (Sisters Annual Lacrosse Invitational) tournament held last weekend for the first time included a girls high school division, with Sisters, Thurston, Bend United and Boise River in attendance. The Lady Outlaws defeated all three of their competitors for a 3-0 top tournament finish. Sisters beat Boise River 5-1 on Saturday and on Sunday defeated Bend United 7-5 and went on to crush Thurston 13-0.

Sisters matched up against Boise River (BR) on Saturday in a very physical game. The Outlaws struggled at the beginning of the contest and BR scored the first goal. Harley Bowler answered with a goal, and from there the Outlaws took charge and never gave up the lead. Bowler, at attack, scored two goals, Langley Vogt, at mid-wing also scored two, and Maison Morgan contributed one goal. Outlaws defense held Boise to just six shots on goal.

Coach Michele Hammer was impressed with Langley Vogt's outstanding performance.

Coach Hammer stated, "Langley was on fire. She was quick and was able to score even while being doubled- and tripled-up by defense. She took ball control at the draw and took it straight in to score. She also provided amazing assists to Harley."

On Saturday, the Outlaws played in a tough game against Bend United. Bend boasted a strong defense, and the Lady Outlaws had a lot of unforced errors. Bowler had a great game, and scored six of Sisters' seven goals. Goalie Nikki Olson blocked five shots in the contest.

Sisters wrapped up tournament play with a game against Thurston. The Outlaws held the Colts to just six shots on goal, and goalie Nikki Olson blocked them all. Bowler again stepped up and had an incredible game and put in four goals. Morgan recorded five goals, one of them on a penalty shot. Phoebe Smoot tallied two goals, and Jenny O'Connor and Madelyn Zadow each contributed one.

Olson as stand-out tournament players.

"Harley (Bowler) had a couple of her best games of the season," said Hammer. "She was fast, did a great job of reading the players and following the ball and scored her highest number of goals this season. Nikki Olson, our goalie, did a great job of stopping shots on goal and directing the defensive team."

Sisters wrapped up their season undefeated at 12-0. The Lady Outlaws lose one player due to graduation and will have a strong group of returning players next year.
