Outlaws baseball break Sky-Em record

The Outlaws held La Pine scoreless in their final two games of league to push their consecutive league wins to 33, breaking the Sky-Em record.

Sisters shut out the Hawks 9-0 at home on Tuesday, and three days later they crushed the Hawks at La Pine 20-0, in a game that was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Joey Morgan was the winning pitcher in Tuesday's matchup. Sisters got 15 hits in the game and committed one error. The Hawks had six errors in the contest and only managed to get one hit.

Dillon Witt went three-for-four with an RBI and Jarden Weems went two-for-four with three RBI. Joey Morgan and Ben Larson were both two-for-three and Justin Harrer went two-for-four.

Harrer's double over the right fielder's head was the highlight for Sisters' offense.

Three days later, the Outlaws racked up 17 hits and 20 runs to demolish the Hawks on their own turf.

La Pine had two hits in the game and committed eight errors.

Harrer pitched the first four innings for Sisters to earn the win. Freshman Steen Johnson closed out the fifth inning in his first appearance on the mound as a varsity player.

Offensive highlights included Larson's first double of his high school career, Morgan's double that sailed 385 yards to the base of the wall, and Harrer's standup triple to right center field.

Coach Steve Hodges was pleased with his team's accomplishments but noted that the Outlaws have work to do to prepare for the tougher competition that lies ahead.

To help with that preparation, Hodges has scheduled two additional games for the Outlaws next week. Sisters was to play Rodgeview on Monday, May 13, and will play against Santiam Christian, one of the top 3A teams in the state, on Thursday.

"These teams are faster and are better-quality teams than we've played against," said Hodges. "They will challenge us on the base pass, and overall they will help us prepare for state. We need to work on our execution in particular situations and with runners on base. We look to elevate our game against Ridgeview and Santiam Christian and hope the tougher competition makes us better."

The Outlaws finished league play with a 15-0 record and were 22-2 overall.
