Water project underway on Hood Avenue

The City of Sisters began work on a waterline improvement project on Hood Avenue and Fir Street in downtown Sisters on Monday, May 6. The project contract was awarded to JAL Construction, Inc. and is anticipated to be complete by June 30.

The project will include new upsized water mainlines. The larger mainlines will allow the city to provide better water quality, increased fire flows and a higher level of service to businesses and residents. They will replace smaller lines that were installed in the 1960s and '70s that reached their anticipated life expectancy.

In total the project will cost $243,744.50 and will be funded through the city's water fund and water system development charges (SDCs).

"This project is an important part in improving the livability of the Sisters community," said City Manager Andrew Gorayeb. "The city understands both traffic and tourism pick up during the busy summer season and we are committed to supporting the merchants downtown with a work schedule that we believe will be as unobtrusive to business as

possible."

The majority of the Hood Avenue Waterline Project work is scheduled to take place Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Work will be done on Hood Avenue between Elm and Larch streets for the next two weeks, before moving to Fir Street.

In consideration of special events and holiday weekends, the city and contractor have agreed to black-out dates over both Memorial Day Weekend (Friday-Sunday, May 24-26) and Sisters Rodeo Weekend (June 7-9).
